What are the best piano composers that ever lived?
There were many great piano composers throughout history and there are many that are still alive and playing, but what were the best, greatest piano composers of all time?
These are (in my opinion) the best five piano composers and their best piano works.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
We all know Mozart as the child prodigy who started composing at an early age. He composed more than 600 works and lived only until his 35th year. His works included: operas, symphonies, piano concertos, piano sonatas, violin concertos etc. These are some of my favorite piano works that he had composed.
Piano Concerto No. 21
Piano Concerto No.24
Piano Sonata in C, K. 545
Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major, K. 331
Johann Sebastian Bach
Bach was a great German composer although in his time mostly known as a performer on the organ rather than a composer. Most of his works include fugues and cannons. My favorite piano works from him are:
Minuet in G
Prelude In C major
Piano Concerto No 1 in D minor
Ludwig Van Beethoven
Beethoven was a German composer who grew up in a family of musicians, his father being his first music teacher. Sadly, this genius went deaf in the final years of his life and couldn’t even hear his last works. Mostly we wrote piano concertos, piano sonatas, symphonies etc. My favorite piano works from this great composer are:
Chopin was a Polish Romantic composer, mainly composing for solo piano. His works included: waltzes, etudes, nocturnes, preludes and because he was from Poland – mazurkas and polonaises. These are some of my favorite works of his:
Nocturne Op.9 No.2
“Fantasie” Impromptu, Op. 66
Liszt was great Hungarian piano virtuoso/composer and like Beethoven had his first music lessons from his father. Most of his works include piano sonatas and piano concertos. My favorite ones are:
