Digital Piano

What is a digital piano?

Digital piano is an instrument that most closely resembles the acoustic piano.

Digital pianos are much more convenient than the traditional acoustic pianos because they are lighter and smaller, the sound and feel of the keyboard is very much like on the acoustic piano, it does not require tuning because it has no strings, it offers many different sounds, it has a plug for headphones and most importantly – it’s cheaper.

As I already said, you can find cheap digital pianos but also more expensive ones. The prices go from under $1000 to more than $7000. If you are looking for a cheap digital piano – Casio, Yamaha, and Korg are the brands for you. If you want to buy the more expensive digital piano – Kawai, Roland, and Suzuki are the brands for you.

Casio and Yamaha were the brands that sold best in January 2013. These are the top 3 models:

  • Casio Privia PX-130
  • Casio Privia PX-150
  • Yamaha DGX-640

Before you buy a digital piano you should always check the sound with headphones and see if it is natural and if the keys weigh like they do on acoustic piano. You should make sure that the sound is not very artificial. What I’m trying to say is that it should feel like playing on a real piano.
